Why hello there, Parramatta and surrounding suburbs
If you live in the Parramatta Local Government Area, we’ve got great news for you. Stitch is being supported by Parramatta City Council in NSW, Australia to help grow the Stitch community across the 34 suburbs of this council area!
This article is intended to give current Stitch members and residents in the area an idea of what’s happening, and explains how you can get involved to help enrich not only your own life, but the life of so many others over 50.
But first, what is Stitch?
Stitch is a social community that helps anyone over 50 enrich their lives through activities, group events, online discussions, companionship, and so much more.
What’s happening
As mentioned, Stitch is being supported by Parramatta City Council in NSW to help grow the Stitch community across the 34 suburbs of this council area.
The goal is to create a rich and thriving Stitch community in this area to help residents over 50 connect and make new companions, all while participating in activities, interest groups and online discussions that interest them.
Over the coming weeks and months we’re going to start seeing an increase in members in these suburbs. More members means more opportunities for friendship and companionship, and a greater number of interest groups and activities to join and participate in.
How incredible will that be?!
As thrilled as we are to be growing our community in these areas, however, we know that we can’t do it without you.
Get involved
The Stitch Community is powered by our members and volunteers, many of whom are making amazing contributions to the lives of other members around them, while enriching their own lives at the same time
Have a read about Stitch’s background if you want to be inspired by how important the community is to so many people around the world.
Inspired to get involved?
We’re currently seeking Community Champion Volunteers to help us grow the Stitch community across the Parramatta LGA.
If you live in one of the suburbs of this council area (see list below), are at least 50 years old, and are interested in organising interest groups and activities (either in-person or virtual) to help people connect, then Community Champion Volunteering may be for you!
Activities don’t need to be expensive or time consuming, in fact, you can host just one a month and can include:
- A coffee get-together
- A trip to a movie you’d like to see
- An informal brunch at a new cafe
- A walk on the weekend
- A class you’d like to attend
- A visit to a flea market
… or anything else you’ve got an interest in doing. It’s totally up to you!
Look at what some of our members and volunteers are posting below, or browse the photos on our Facebook page to see what our community gets up to.
Why get involved?
By getting involved you’ll be helping to enrich not only your own life, but the life of so many people in your local community through your activities that will be connecting people.
In times such as these when so many of us are needing to stay physically distanced, an activity such as a virtual coffee get-together goes a long way in helping us all stay socially connected.
As a token of our appreciation, we’ll give you a complimentary Full membership of Stitch to equip you with all the tools to be able to create groups, host activities and connect one-on-one with other members.
You’ll also receive ongoing training and support from the Stitch team to help get your group and activities up and running.
Make the most of it
Being a Community Champion Volunteer is super fun and rewarding, and we actually find that most volunteers tell us they want to do more than just create regular activities — they want to participate more.
You are more than welcome to fully immerse yourself and take full advantage of Stitch — attend other people’s activities, host additional events of your own, join groups that interest you, and participate in the online discussion forums.
We encourage you to make the most of your complimentary membership!
I’m interested! How do I get started?
If you meet all the requirements and think that becoming a Community Champion Volunteer sounds like something you would like to do, then please get in touch!
Fill in this form to register your interest and a friendly Stitch staff member will be in touch with next steps!
Also, if you’re a member of an organisation or club in the Parramatta area that caters to the 50+ demographic, please let us know. Our project with the Parramatta Council also includes making Stitch available to existing community groups in the Parramatta area, to help their members benefit from being part of the community.
